I was late to the party, but I love this book. Zapata does real characters with depth and emotion better than almost anyone and Kulti is no different. I don't know why it took me so long to read this one, but it's held up over the years since publication.
Sal is strong, grounded in the reality of her world, facing a future she knows is going to change, painful mistakes she's taken responsibility for, and trying hard to do the right thing. And once again, as in The Wall Of Winnepeg , the choice of POV leaves us guessing about Reiner- who is he really? What is it that makes him tick? And when it all comes together, as in life, we aren't really sure if we can hold on tight enough.
I thought she couldn't make me love someone as much as WOW... but she did. And damn if she didn't make me want to go grab a soccerball.
